Budget Friendly Desk Accessory Options

With the increase of remote work and hybrid schedule jobs, more professionals need a resource to provide high quality, customized desk accessories that won’t break the bank. Smith McDonald is a premier manufacturer of fine desk accessory products and because of our wide range of manufacturing capabilities, we are able to provide customers desk accessory options to meet a range of budget restrictions.

Smith McDonald Office Accessory Manufacturing Expertise

We are experts in our industry and have seen it all. Smith McDonald traces its roots back to 1889 when we pioneered the introduction of desk accessory products to the market. Since then, Smith McDonald has continued to innovate and remain a leader in the desk and office accessory industry with products like our 202 desk accessory line being inducted on permanent display at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.

In 1986, Smith Metal Arts acquired McDonald Products Corporation and merged to become Smith McDonald Corporation as we are known today. Smith Metal Arts’ primary focus and expertise was in artistry and fine design of office and desk supplies, while McDonald Products Corporation specialized in a variety of quality metal and plastic office-related products. Together, Smith McDonald offers customers a range of high-quality, affordable products including conference pads, desk pads, desk accessories, waste receptacles, and planters.

Diverse Equipment to Create Affordable Office & Desk Accessories

Over the years, Smith McDonald has continued to develop our office products and accessories to meet the growing and changing needs of our customers. Not only do we offer our quality office products like leather desk pads in a variety of customized options including size, material, color etc., but also we make sure to prioritize affordability and create price ranges to meet our customers’ demands. Having a variety of different manufacturing equipment machines on-site at our facility gives our team the capabilities to create high quality products at competitive prices.

As the industry evolves and customer expectations change, we make sure to incorporate innovative equipment in our manufacturing processes. Our three most popular manufacturing machine options we utilize are the:

  • Industrial Water Jet Cutter
  • Zünd Digital Cutter
  • Mayer Panel Saw

These machines keep our manufacturing processes as efficient as possible, which allows us to create precision, high end, and affordable office and desk accessory products for our customers in a timely manner.

What Is An Industrial Waterjet Cutter?

The waterjet uses a high-pressure stream of water (or a water and abrasive mix) to cut through virtually any material. Utilizing the waterjet cutter allows our technicians and engineers to automate the cutting process to ensure tight tolerance and exact design cutting. Because of this, the waterjet can be programmed to cut basic shapes or complex and intricate designs that can be custom or duplicated repeatedly depending on the customers’ need.

Smith McDonald purchased our industrial waterjet cutter in 2011 to better serve our customers’ needs for precision metal cutting requirements. All our metal based products (including letter trays, waste baskets, memo boxes etc.) begin their manufacturing process by first being precisely cut on the waterjet. Our waterjet cutter has a 5’x10’ bed size, allowing us to create a range of products of varying sizes, and a material thickness cutting capability of .10” – 5.0”.

What Is A Zünd G3 Digital Cutter?

The Zünd G3 digital cutter is a flatbed cutter used to ensure efficient, precision cut quality for any custom design shape. The Zünd cutting system is designed with the perfect balance of intelligent control technology and precision mechanics, enabling the machine to make automated adjustments to determine required cutting depth and guarantee reliable material hold-down to create repeatable cutting tolerances.

Smith McDonald bought a Zünd G3 digital cutter in 2015 and is the newest addition to our manufacturing equipment. Our team is highly trained and experienced using the Zünd digital cutter. We attended a special two day training event at the Zünd facility to make sure we had a mastery of the equipment process. With the digital cutter, our technicians and engineers are able to make all of our cartons for products, as well as custom shapes for linoleum desk pads and “rubber” gaskets.

What Is A Mayer Panel Saw?

The Mayer panel saw is ideal for cutting a variety of materials including medium density fiberboard, particleboard, hardboard, plywood etc. The Mayer panel saw is constructed to be highly durable to withstand cutting materials with varying thicknesses and hardness levels. The panel saw also allows for accurate cutting of panel stacks or single material sheets to improve efficiency, leading to reduced product lead and delivery times.

Smith McDonald acquired a Mayer panel saw in 2009 and it has been a cornerstone of our manufacturing process ever since. All our cutting and manufacturing work is done at our facility by our experienced and trained team to ensure your products are cut to your standards every time.

By utilizing a variety of different cutting machines in our office and desk accessory manufacturing process, we are able to provide high quality products at competitive prices for a range of customized customer projects. While we specialize in office and desk accessory projects, our team has the knowledge and skill to create a variety of custom parts and products for OEMs and customers in various materials including:
